Personal guidance

Your time on the water is personal. Let’s keep the insurance conversation that way.

Start with what you own, who operates it, and the places you plan to go. Our Metairie team helps you work through the choices without turning your next outing into a pile of insurance jargon.

Metairie, Louisiana

Boat · Fishing boat · Pontoon · Sailboat · PWC

Tell us about your specific craft. Eligibility varies by vessel, use, and insurer.

FOLLOW THE DAY

From launch to last light.

02 / OUT ON THE WATER

01 / BEFORE THE FIRST WAKE

Start with your boat, motor, and equipment.

Physical damage coverage may help after a covered collision, theft, fire, or storm loss. Ask which parts of your craft, motor, and installed equipment are insured.

Bring up fishing gear, electronics, and the trailer. Do not assume every item is included or has the same limit.

02 / OUT ON THE WATER

Think about the people around you, too.

Watercraft liability may help with covered injuries or property damage you cause to others. Ask about medical payments and uninsured boater protection for your situation.

Tell us about passengers, other operators, and watersports. Covered activities and eligible users depend on the policy.

03 / BACK AT THE DOCK

Protection questions do not end when you tie up.

Review theft, storage, trailering, and storm-related provisions. Ask what coverage applies while your boat is out of the water and where it is kept.

Before changing coverage for the season, check lender or marina obligations and any storage conditions in your policy.

ROOM FOR EVERY KIND OF DAY

Fishing, floating, or heading somewhere new.

Tell us about your boat’s type, length, horsepower, value, and equipment. Just as important: the waters you use and the way you use them.

Ask about navigation territory, offshore limits, storm deductibles, and any policy conditions that affect your plans.

PERSONAL WATERCRAFT

A smaller craft. A conversation of its own.

A Jet Ski, WaveRunner, or Sea-Doo should not be an afterthought on someone else’s policy. Ask how your PWC would be insured, who may operate it, and which activities are eligible.

Mention modifications, rentals, and any plans to tow riders. Coverage arrangements and exclusions differ by insurer.

THE QUESTIONS THAT DESERVE A CLOSER LOOK

A policy is more than a price on a quote.

Knowing what happens after a loss helps you compare options more clearly. Bring these questions to our team.

01 A tow back to shore

Is on-water assistance included, optional, or separate? What service limits and covered events apply?

02 Damage beyond the hull

How are equipment, belongings, and your trailer covered—and which need to be listed separately?

03 The cost after a loss

What deductible applies, and is a total loss settled on agreed value, actual cash value, or another basis?

04 Cleanup and recovery

Ask whether fuel-spill liability and wreck removal are covered, and what conditions and limits apply.

Helpful answers

Boat & PWC insurance questions.

Clear answers help drivers understand what to discuss before choosing coverage.

Do I need a separate boat or PWC policy?

Do not assume your home or auto policy provides the watercraft protection you want. Restrictions can apply to craft size, power, use, and damage coverage. We can help review the gaps and discuss a policy for your specific boat or PWC.

Is boat insurance required?

Requirements vary by location and circumstances. A lender, marina, or storage facility may require coverage even where a state does not. Check your agreements and the rules that apply to your craft and boating area.

Does boat insurance cover storm damage?

It may cover damage from certain weather events, but policy terms matter. Ask about storm or wind deductibles, navigation limits, and any preparation, storage, or relocation conditions. Do not assume every weather-related loss is covered.

Is my boat protected while it is being trailered?

Ask how physical damage to your boat and damage to the trailer are insured. Your towing vehicle’s liability protection does not answer every question about damage to either item.

Can a friend operate my boat or PWC?

Review operator eligibility and any policy restrictions before handing over the controls. Tell us who uses the craft and ask about passengers and watersports, too. Permission alone should not be treated as a guarantee of coverage.

Does coverage include mechanical breakdown?

Not every engine problem is an insured loss. Wear, maintenance issues, and breakdowns can be treated differently from damage caused by a covered event. Ask about the actual cause of loss, exclusions, and any available options.

Can I use my craft for rentals, racing, or business?

Tell us before choosing a policy. Rentals, racing, charters, and commercial activity may be excluded or require different coverage. Confirm eligibility for your intended use.

Should I cancel coverage when I am not boating?

Theft, fire, and other damage can happen while a craft is stored. Review storage risks, policy conditions, and lender or marina obligations with our team before changing coverage.
